Sharing Hope, One Meal at a Time: Let’s Share a Meal

On November 23rd, a wave of love and kindness swept through the tri-state area as over 400 volunteers gathered to prepare and deliver more than 10,000 meals to 47 shelters. This was more than just a food drive—it was a celebration of compassion, community, and hope for those who often feel overlooked during the holiday season.

“With so many people struggling to put food on the table, especially during the holidays, we wanted to share more than just meals—we wanted to share hope,” said Onkar Singh, event’s organizers. “Let’s make sure no one feels forgotten this Thanksgiving.”

In the quiet, pre-dawn hours, the Jersey City Gurudwara became a hive of activity. By 5:00 AM, the kitchen was alive with the sound of chopping, packing, and laughter. Volunteers—young and old—joined hands to make this mission possible.

  • Aakash Makkar set up the sandwich table, where meals were prepared with love and care.
  • Ranjit Singh kept the kitchen running smoothly, ensuring every dish was packed and ready on time.
  • Mahendra Singh, Manmeet Singh, and Kamaljeet Singh managed the dispatch efforts, orchestrating deliveries like a well-tuned symphony.

The day began with a heartfelt Ardas (prayer) led by Gurbachan Singh, seeking blessings for the journey ahead.

The true heroes of the event were the women and mothers who multitasked with grace—preparing meals, organizing logistics, and teaching their children the value of service.

Children added their special touch by:

  • Decorating meal boxes with cheerful stickers.
  • Packing meals with tiny, yet determined, hands.
  • Helping distribute meals at shelters, spreading joy wherever they went.

By 8:45 AM, the first batch of meals was on its way:

  • 150 meals to New Brunswick, delivered by Dalbir Singh.
  • 200 meals to Jersey City, delivered by Rahul.
  • 150 meals to Union City, delivered by Mandeep.

This meticulous effort ensured all 47 shelters were served efficiently throughout the day.

While many worked on the front lines, countless others played essential roles behind the scenes:

  • Param amplified the mission by connecting with influencers to raise awareness.
  • Simar and her friends warmly welcomed new volunteers, guiding them through Gurudwara traditions like covering their heads and removing their shoes.

Every person played a crucial role, proving that no act of service is too small:

  • Gurinder and Talwinder led the dispatch team with precision.
  • Neha, Darshni, and Harleen juggled logistics and dispatch calls flawlessly.

Special thanks to our drivers, who braved the cold to deliver meals with warm smiles. Heroes like Parminder, Brijpal, Aman, Majinder, Deep, Rahul, Gagan, Gobind, Mandeep, Ashwini, Kanwar, and many more ensured every meal reached someone in need.
